Research Paper

Title: Child combatants: a soldier's perspective , By: Ashby, Phil, Lancet, 00995355, 12/21/2002 Supplement, Vol. 360, Issue 9350Database: Academic Search Primer

This is an article about the brutality of child soldiers in Sierra Leone. It gives a blow by blow account of the whole process and then it actually has a quote from the actual children. This article was a great source of information and I definitely can use this one!!!!

Title:
'We beat and killed people...'
Authors:
Masland, Tom
Source:
Newsweek; 5/13/2002, Vol. 139 Issue 19, p24, 6p, 1 chart, 5c

This is also a great article it actual has these four boys describing their encounter of being actual child soldiers. They explain how it was to kill and beat people for a living and how it disturbed them extremely. Now they are in rehab centers and still not doing to good!

Wow! Just when you think you have problems...you realize that there are people experiencing REAL agony in life. We have so much to be thankful for.

Great Job!

Hi Tarrez:

I was looking at an old news report that Anderson Cooper did on the terror and children soldiers in Africa and it was heartbreaking.

We are so blessed to be Americans despite some of the "isms" that tend to sneak in and disrupt our lives here. There is so much truth to the old adage that "to much is given"..It is my hope that you get involve as a student in some of the issues affecting our African brothers and sisters. Felicia is a great resource for information about Amensty International.

I am still very active in my former parish (Detroit) mission work in Haiti. To date, we have built a school house, provided nourishing dirt to plant vegetation, medicines. We even started a sponsorship program to which we are fortunate to provide food for entire families. It is a blessing to be of service.

I am so proud of you Tarrez, and I look forward to seeing you contribute greatly to the world!

---Leslie
